A new study in Nature tested inulin in people with rheumatoid arthritis. For 8 weeks, one group took 10 g/day inulin, the other got a placebo.
What they found
People taking inulin had lower CRP (a marker of inflammation).
They had fewer tender and swollen joints.
Scores for joint function and stiffness improved.
Pain ratings did not change.
Why this matters
Inulin is a fiber that feeds Bifidobacterium and other helpful gut bacteria.
When these bacteria grow, they make compounds that can calm the immune system.
This study suggests inulin may be a safe, helpful add‑on to regular RA treatment.
Remember
This is one small study. Inulin is not a replacement for RA medications.
It may help with stiffness and function, but don’t expect pain relief right away.
